Frequently Asked Questions
-
Yes! The Heirloom Collage Method is designed for all levels, including beginners. You don’t need prior art experience, just a love for your child’s creativity and a desire to preserve it beautifully.
-
Most of the materials for the Heirloom Collage Method are affordable and easy to source. If you’re starting from scratch, expect to spend around $50 on the core supplies (gel medium, brushes, brayer, varnish, etc.). Many people already have some of these items at home, which can bring the cost down — and you can use everything you purchase for other crafting or art projects as well.
The most variable cost is the wood panel or canvas you choose to work on. Prices depend entirely on the size you select. Wood panels tend to cost more than canvas, but I personally prefer them for their rigidity, durability, and polished, gallery-style finish. The larger the panel or canvas, the more expensive it will be. Inside the course, I offer guidance on choosing the right size for your artwork.
You’ll also receive a detailed materials list and direct links to recommended products (including both U.S. and international options).
-
Yes! Once you enroll, you’ll have lifetime access, so you can move at your own pace, revisit lessons anytime, and create whenever inspiration strikes. There’s no expiration or deadline.
-
Absolutely. You’ll have direct access to me and our private Heirloom Collage Club Facebook group, where you can share progress, ask for feedback, and connect with others learning the process. I check in regularly to answer questions and offer support.
If you ever want more personalized support, I offer 1:1 video consultation calls, a chance to talk through your specific collage, materials, or layout questions directly with me.
Sometimes you just need to chat with someone who’s done it before, and these quick calls are designed to help you feel clear, confident, and ready to keep going.

The Heirloom Collage Method includes about 45 minutes of guided video lessons across seven modules, but the course is designed for you to learn, pause, and create at your own pace. Each module walks you through a different part of the process — from sorting and preparing your child’s artwork, to planning your composition, to gluing, layering, and finishing your piece.
Most people complete the course over the span of several days, especially if they like to take their time with the sorting and design stages. If you prefer a more focused, project-style experience, you can absolutely complete the entire process in a single weekend with a few dedicated hours.
Many people also hop into the private Heirloom Collage Club Facebook group while they work through each module. It’s a supportive space to share progress, get feedback, ask questions, and see how others are interpreting the method.
However you choose to move through it, the course is built to be flexible and encouraging.
-
You’re not alone! This is one of the most common fears. Remember, you can always start by scanning or photocopying a few pieces to practice first. The process is forgiving, and the course walks you through each step so you’ll feel confident before you ever make a cut. Most people find that once they begin, it becomes a joyful, creative experience rather than a scary one.
-
That’s totally fine! The course itself is hosted separately, and you’ll have full access to all video lessons and downloads. The Facebook group is an optional space for extra community and support, but not required to complete the course.
-
The materials list is included within the course and designed to pair with the video instruction. It’s not sold separately, since the techniques, layering, and sequencing are what bring everything together.
-
Yes! I’ve included international product links inside the course to make sourcing easier wherever you live. Many of the materials can also be found locally or through online art suppliers. If you ever have trouble finding something specific, just reach out. I’m happy to help you locate a good alternative.

The Heirloom Collage Method is designed for personal use only. It’s meant to guide you in creating collages for your own family and loved ones, not for commercial or business use. I’ve worked hard to develop this process as part of my own art practice, so I ask that you use it to create personal heirlooms— not products for sale.
-
Please share your finished collages. I love seeing what you create! However, the specific process, techniques, and materials taught inside the Heirloom Collage Method are for enrolled students only and shouldn’t be shared publicly.
You’re welcome to show your completed piece and tag @shanablakley so others can see your beautiful result and learn where you found the inspiration. -
Absolutely! Gift vouchers are available, perfect for holidays, baby showers, or milestone birthdays.

This course includes everything I’ve developed through years of professional practice — the same process I use to create commissioned heirloom collages valued between $800–$5,000+. It’s a detailed course that guides you from start to finish and includes personal support and a growing creative community. My goal is to make the professional process accessible to parents and artists who want to create their own heirlooms at home.

Yes! Enrollment includes lifetime access for as long as the course is hosted on my site. You can move at your own pace, revisit lessons anytime, and create whenever inspiration strikes.
